American Amateur Press Association

American Printing History Association
The American Printing History Association encourages the study of printing history and its related arts and skills, including calligraphy, typefounding, typography, papermaking, bookbinding, illustration, and publishing. APHA is especially, but by no means exclusively, interested in American printing history.
American Type Founders (ATF) was created in 1892 by the merger of 23 type foundries, including Binny and Ronaldson, Boston Type Foundry, Central Type Foundry, Dickinson Type Foundry, and Farmer, Little and Co. Other major competitors were soon absorbed.

Gutenberg Bible - aka 42-line Bible
The Gutenberg Bible (also known as the 42-line Bible or the Mazarin Bible) is a printed version of the Latin Vulgate translation of the Bible that was printed by Johannes Gutenberg, in Mainz, Germany in the fifteenth century. Although it is not, as often thought, the first book to be printed by Gutenberg's new movable type system, it is his major work, and has iconic status as the start of the "Gutenberg Revolution" and the "Age of the Printed Book".

In 1900, 500 years after Gutenberg’s birth, a group of citizens founded the museum in Mainz. They wanted to honour the inventor, today’s “man of the millennium”, and present his technical and artistic achievements to the public at large.

Print Block Manufacture History - Stanford University
The process of wood engraving involves the cutting of an image in relief on a hard, end-grain block of wood with a tool called a burin. The engraver cuts away the parts of the block that correspond to the areas in the drawing which are to remain white or uninked.
