Netherlands Coat of Arms Printers Block

10.5 x 15.5 pica (1 ?? x 2 5/8?)

Beautiful coat of arms with a crown, columns, and medieval lions. Text in the banners reads: Nisi Dominus Frustra. This can be variously translated as "Without the Lord, everything is in vain" "Except the Lord in Vain" or "He that acts without the Lord Acts in vain." Basically nisi means "unless, if not or without", Dominus means "lord" or "master" and frustra means "in vain" or "useless."

The bottom banner reads: Een:dracht maakt macht. I believe this Dutch coat of arms represents The Reformed Low Dutch Church of New York. Electrotype copper face mounted on hardwood printers block.

Foundry Marking: None
