Virtue Liberty and Independence PA State Coat of Arms

16.5 x 11 pica ( 2 13/16 x 1 7/8 inch )

Nice sharp cut that features the Pennsylvania State Coat of Arms and Motto. In 1778, Caleb Lownes of Philadelpia created a coat of arms. It consisted of a shield, which diplays the emblem of the State Seal - the ship, plough, and shieves of wheat, an eagle for the crest, two black horses as supporters, and the motto: "Virtue, Liberty and Independence". An olive branch and a cronstalk were crossed below the shield. Behind each horse was a stalk of corn, but these were omitted in 1805.

Hardwood with Electrotype Copper Face Plate.
